Who we are

What data we collect and why
Newsletter subscription
- Email address - to send you the newsletter
- Name (optional) - to personalise emails
- Signup source - which page you subscribed from
- Subscription date - for our records
Legal basis: Consent. You confirm via a double opt-in email. You can withdraw consent at any time by clicking Unsubscribe in any email we send, or by emailing us directly.
Bot protection
Our subscription form uses Cloudflare Turnstile to distinguish humans from bots. It may store data in your browser (cookies or local storage) strictly for this purpose. No personal data is shared beyond what is necessary to complete the challenge.
Visitor counting
- Page and time - which page you opened, and when
- Where you came from - the site that linked to you, or our own campaign label if you followed one of our links
- Rough location - country, region, and city, worked out from your IP address
- Network operator - the company providing your connection, which on office and university networks is often the institution itself
- Browser, system, device type - and the main language your browser asks for
We count visits with software we wrote ourselves, running on our own infrastructure in the European Union. There is no third-party analytics service and no advertising network involved. It uses no cookies and no browser storage of any kind, so there is nothing here for you to consent to.
Your IP address is never stored. It is used once, mixed with a secret we throw away and replace every day, to produce a number that tells repeat visits apart within a single day. Because that secret is destroyed, we cannot connect your visits across different days, and we cannot connect a visit here to a visit in our Viewer.
Legal basis: Legitimate interest. We need to know whether our work reaches anyone. If your browser sends Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control, we count nothing at all.
Where it's stored
Your data is stored and processed within the European Economic Area. We do not transfer it outside the EEA.
How long we keep it
For as long as you're subscribed. You can request full deletion at any time; we'll remove it within 30 days.
Who we share it with
Nobody for marketing. We use third-party services only for infrastructure: hosting, email delivery, and bot protection.
Cookies
None from us. No tracking or analytics cookies, and our visitor counting uses no browser storage at all. The only browser storage on this site is Cloudflare Turnstile, for bot protection.
Counting visits
We count page visits with our own software, on our own infrastructure, in the EU. No third-party analytics, no cookies, no browser storage. Your IP address is never stored, and we cannot follow you from one day to the next.
